WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING AND NANONEEDLING AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
The first thing to learn when researching MicroNeedling vs. NanoNeedling is the difference between the 2 services. Both are collagen inducing, both are considered MicroNeedling but they are slightly different and its important to know they require different licenses to perform the services.
NanoNeedling is a minimally invasive procedure that renews regenerates and strengthens skin. It treats and minimizing fine lines, wrinkles, lax skin, enlarged pores. MicroNeedling is a deeper more invasive form where it goes to the dermis layer where the cellular activity happens. This procedure is best performed using numbing cream to start the service. This service should only be performed by licensed professionals as it’s a clinical/medical service and those that are licensed to perform MicroNeedling are Acupuncturist and MD licensed professionals (Acupuncture clinics or med spas with medical directors).
NanoNeedling is a great alternative for those who would like a less invasive form of MicroNeedling, more like facial rejuvenation service. NanoNeedling is also a collagen induction therapy using silicone tips vs needles and does not go deeper than the epidermis layer when stimulating the collagen production. This service can be performed by licensed aestheticians.
We use red light therapy in most MicroNeedling/NanoNeedling treatments as it is also a form of collagen induction therapy enhancing the production of collagen and elastin.
The take away to learn is MicroNeedling is the more invasive of the two and should be performed by a licensed medical professional in a clinical setting. Whereas NanoNeedling is less invasive form of MicroNeedling, however still considered MicroNeedling it can be done in salons, spas and clinics by trained Aestheticians.

"Recently I had the pleasure to receive microneedling treatment at KenkoDo. This is more than classic microneedling - it included face, neck and decollete. My skin feels more nourished and hydrated than it ever has. The environment is welcoming, clean and the staff is beyond professional and courteous. I am looking forward to my next treatment!”

FAQs Microneedling
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A MICRONEEDLING TREATMENT?
An average treatment takes from 30–90 minutes beginning with the before pictures, so we can see the progress and change that’s happening from treatment to treatment. These pictures will be kept in your file and are confidential.
Applying a numbing cream is next (this is also optional for brave souls). Once the area is numb (approx 20 mins.), the microneedling treatment begins.
When microneedling a serum is necessary to allow the desired pressure and glide and to avoid dragging on the skin. Hyaluronic Acid and vegetable glycerin are often used as a base in serums along with other nutrients all chosen for your specific need.
After the treatment is finished and the serum has been absorbed more deeply into the skin because of these microchannels it’s time to wrap it up. We will apply a hyaluronic acid mask or finish you off with the Celluma red light therapy or perhaps both; it depends on the treatment you choose.

WHAT'S THE DOWNTIME OF MICRONEEDLING?
The downtime differs person to person and treatment to treatment, 1-2 days is what we see most. On day one you may be red looking like sunburn and your skin may feel tight, dry, swollen, and/or sensitive to the touch. On day 2 your skin should start to return to its normal tone and all should subside, also you may return to your normal skin care routine.
WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID??
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body. It is a chain of sugar molecules that binds to water to create a gel-like lubricating substance. It can be found in almost every cell, and it provides skin with all of its moisture.
Like glycerin, another popular moisturizing agent, hyaluronic acid is humectants. This means that it is attracted to water, drawing moisture from the air and into the skin. It can even carry up to 1,000 times its weight in water, making it a powerful hydrator. Because of this ability to moisturize, hyaluronic acid can be a valuable addition to any skincare routine.

DOES IT FIGHT WRINKLES, TOO?
It's true that some of the in-demand anti-aging treatments on the market today rely on hyaluronic acid to plump up skin and smooth wrinkles, but injecting something into the body is very different than applying it topically and simply smearing hyaluronic acid serum or cream onto your face won't result in instantly smooth, plump skin. Though wrinkles may appear slightly softer because the skin is hydrated it is not as long lasting as when hydration is directed into the skins dermis layer like what happens with microneedling.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO YOU NEED?
Depending on what you're trying to treat and your desired results. If you just want to improve the overall tone and texture of your skin you can usually get noticeable results in about three treatments. Something like acne scars and deep wrinkles will take an average 6 treatments.
Our recommendation to our clients is to commit to four treatments separated by 3–4 weeks with nano needling in-between for faster results as an addition to your treatment.

IS THERE ANYONE WHO SHOULDN'T GET MICRONEEDLING?
Anyone with, open lesions, cold sores, active acne, psoriasis, or eczema should not have microneedling treatment on that area. Additionally, if you are on a blood thinner or have a history of keloid scars, you should consult your primary care before starting microneedling treatment. There are very few people who can't get microneedling! It's perfect for anyone who wants an overall improvement to their skin.
