FAQs Microneedling
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A MICRONEEDLING TREATMENT?
An average treatment takes from 30–90 minutes beginning with the before pictures, so we can see the progress and change that’s happening from treatment to treatment. These pictures will be kept in your file and are confidential.
Applying a numbing cream is next (this is also optional for brave souls). Once the area is numb (approx 20 mins.), the microneedling treatment begins.
When microneedling a serum is necessary to allow the desired pressure and glide and to avoid dragging on the skin. Hyaluronic Acid and vegetable glycerin are often used as a base in serums along with other nutrients all chosen for your specific need.
After the treatment is finished and the serum has been absorbed more deeply into the skin because of these microchannels it’s time to wrap it up. We will apply a hyaluronic acid mask or finish you off with the Celluma red light therapy or perhaps both; it depends on the treatment you choose.

WHAT'S THE DOWNTIME OF MICRONEEDLING?
The downtime differs person to person and treatment to treatment, 1-2 days is what we see most. On day one you may be red looking like sunburn and your skin may feel tight, dry, swollen, and/or sensitive to the touch. On day 2 your skin should start to return to its normal tone and all should subside, also you may return to your normal skin care routine.
WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID??
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body. It is a chain of sugar molecules that binds to water to create a gel-like lubricating substance. It can be found in almost every cell, and it provides skin with all of its moisture.
Like glycerin, another popular moisturizing agent, hyaluronic acid is humectants. This means that it is attracted to water, drawing moisture from the air and into the skin. It can even carry up to 1,000 times its weight in water, making it a powerful hydrator. Because of this ability to moisturize, hyaluronic acid can be a valuable addition to any skincare routine.

DOES IT FIGHT WRINKLES, TOO?
It's true that some of the in-demand anti-aging treatments on the market today rely on hyaluronic acid to plump up skin and smooth wrinkles, but injecting something into the body is very different than applying it topically and simply smearing hyaluronic acid serum or cream onto your face won't result in instantly smooth, plump skin. Though wrinkles may appear slightly softer because the skin is hydrated it is not as long lasting as when hydration is directed into the skins dermis layer like what happens with microneedling.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO YOU NEED?
Depending on what you're trying to treat and your desired results. If you just want to improve the overall tone and texture of your skin you can usually get noticeable results in about three treatments. Something like acne scars and deep wrinkles will take an average 6 treatments.
Our recommendation to our clients is to commit to four treatments separated by 3–4 weeks with nano needling in-between for faster results as an addition to your treatment.

IS THERE ANYONE WHO SHOULDN'T GET MICRONEEDLING?
Anyone with, open lesions, cold sores, active acne, psoriasis, or eczema should not have microneedling treatment on that area. Additionally, if you are on a blood thinner or have a history of keloid scars, you should consult your primary care before starting microneedling treatment. There are very few people who can't get microneedling! It's perfect for anyone who wants an overall improvement to their skin.
WHAT DOES MICRONEEDLING COST?
It depends on the treatment you choose, varying from $75-$1500. CLick here for full pricing.

FAQs ACUPUNCTURE
WHAT IS THE "BRANCH AND ROOT" APPROACH?
Acupuncture addresses health on many levels. Some acute problems that interfere with our quality-of-life emerge as branch symptoms of deeper root issues. We can offer immediate relief for many of these branch symptoms like headache, stiff neck, and PMS. However, we can also nourish the root of deeper imbalances within the blood and organs, such as chronic problems with cholesterol, blood pressure, and pain. By working on the root problems, the manifestations (branches) may resolve with time.
WHAT DOES ACUPUNCTURE TREAT?
Acupuncture aims to address a person's condition holistically, which means that while you may be seeking treatment for a very specific condition, you can also see benefits to other aspects of your health while you receive treatment. Examples of conditions treated include:
- Musculoskeletal pain: back pain, neck pain, limb pain, arthritis (OA, RA)
- Headaches, migraines
- GI disorders: nausea, vomiting, appetite control, bloating, acid reflux
- Sleep disorders
- Stress, anxiety, depression, fatigue
- Inflammatory conditions: acute injury, chronic inflammation, IBS
- Menopause: mood changes, hot flashes
- PMS, menses regulation
- Fertility issues
- Circulatory issues
- Respiratory conditions: colds/flu, immune system, asthma, smoking cessation
IS ACUPUNTURE SCIENTIFIC?
In clinical trials, acupuncture has been shown to be effective for nausea, headaches, and digestive troubles. It has also been shown to help reduce pain and swelling pre-operatively and assist recovery post-operatively. Other studies have demonstrated acupuncture’s success in treating psychosomatic illness and syndromes that are resistant to Western interventions. Our clients come to us with a mix of ailments ranging from low-back-pain and stress, to diabetes and sleep disorders.
DOES ACUPUNCTURE HURT?
Acupuncture should not hurt. You may feel "Qi" sensations such as tingling, warmth, heaviness, or achiness at the point where the needle is, or in other areas of the body. If you are unsure about the needles, magnets and non-insertive needles (teishin) can be used to stimulate the acupuncture points as well. People are often surprised by how relaxed they feel once the needles are in and the healing has begun. It isn't uncommon for people to actually sleep throughout their treatment!
WHAT IS THE TRAINING FOR AN ACUPUNCTURIST?
Like other medical professions, acupuncture and Oriental medicine licensure is determined on a state-by-state basis. Massachusetts' standards are of the most rigorous in the United States, requiring a three- to four-year Masters degree program with 2050 hours of didactic and clinical training. In addition to learning Traditional Chinese Medicine, students must have also completed pre-med curriculum and four terms of Western Pathophysiology and Pharmacology in an effort to interface with Western medicine. Licenses are issued by the Board of Medicine of Massachusetts, and professionals must also be board certified by national standards, which requires three or four board exams: Biomedicine, Foundations of Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture with Point Location, and for herbalists, Chinese Herbology. Credentials to look for:
- Lic. Ac. or L. Ac. = Licensed Acupuncturist
- MAOM or MAc = Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (can prescribe herbal medicine) or Masters in Acupuncture
- Dipl. Ac or Dipl. OM = Diplomate in Acupuncture or Diplomate in Oriental Medicine (can prescribe herbal medicine); national certification credentials
FAQs Massage
HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER A MASSAGE?
Depending on what type of massage you are getting most often people feel relaxed even feeling relief from chronic aches and pains. Often you can feel an increase in energy, heightened awareness and an increase in productivity which can last a few days.
If you received a deep tissue massage, you may feel a bit sore the next day similar to a good work out at the gym. Staying warm, a hot shower or bath to soak could be helpful to ease the soreness.
